Welcome to St. Germaine Catholic School!
Catholic education has always been an important part of my ministry. Beginning with my assignment as deacon to St. Matthew parish, Detroit, where I taught 8th grade religion in the school, I have been associated with Catholic education. After I was ordained to the priesthood, I was assigned to St. Anne parish, Warren, where I taught in the parish high school. My next assignment was to St. Agatha parish, Redford Twp., where I also taught in the parish high school. After going back to school myself, earning a License in Canon Law from the University of St. Paul, Ottawa, Canada, I became chaplain of Bishop Gallagher High School, Harper Woods.
In the fall of 1989, I learned that St. Germaine parish, St. Clair Shores, was open for a new pastor. I knew that the parish had a grade school since some of the best students at Bishop Gallagher were graduates of St. Germaine School. Archbishop Szoka appointed me pastor in October 1989 and I have been here ever since!
There have been many changes over the years [ St. Germaine parish merged with St. Gertrude parish in 2009, becoming Our Lady of Hope parish], but our commitment to quality Catholic education remains the same.
God bless. Rev. Jim Bjorum
